South East woman receives £27,000 compensation after dentist failed to diagnose periodontal disease
Jonathan Owen, Associate Solicitor at the Dental Law Partnership helped Ms N obtain £27,000 compensation after her dentist failed to diagnose periodontal disease.
Ms N from the South East, was a long standing patient with Dr K and trusted his professional opinion when it came to her oral health.
Over a number of visits Dr K provided a range of treatments for Ms N, including, fillings, root canal treatments and crowns. Her periodontal condition was never mentioned by Dr K during any of her visits. On a number of occasions Ms N attended complaining of pain and swelling that she was suffering with and she was prescribed antibiotics.
After not being able to put up with the pain anymore Ms N decided to book in an appointment with a new dentist and see if they could help find the cause of her pain. It was at this appointment that the problems were brought to light.
The new dentist advised Ms N that she was suffering from undiagnosed periodontal disease. Further assessments were carried out and our client underwent the extraction of 4 teeth. She also faces the loss of more due to the periodontal neglect from Dr K.
Ms N commented, “To find out after all this time that I was suffering with periodontal disease was a total shock and at first hard to believe. It’s not news you expect to hear when you’ve been regularly attending the dentist.
I feel really disappointed with Dr K, on a number of occasions I went to see him with the pain I was suffering with and I was just given antibiotics.”
